The Bihar state government, under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, has achieved a significant milestone by issuing over 1 crore 'Ayushman Bharat' cards within just six days. The initiative, aimed at providing free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh annually to all ration card holders under the Ayushman scheme, marks a substantial step towards enhancing healthcare accessibility for citizens. The scheme, extended to all ration card holders under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), ensures that beneficiaries receive 5 kg of rice along with comprehensive healthcare coverage.
The comprehensive distribution effort saw Siwan district leading with the issuance of 5,99,609 Ayushman Bharat cards, followed closely by Muzaffarpur, Patna, and Madhubani districts. Meanwhile, certain districts such as Munger, Kishanganj, Sheikhpura, and Sheohar saw comparatively lower issuance rates. The decision to extend the Ayushman Bharat scheme to all ration card holders was taken by the Bihar cabinet in February, further solidifying the state's commitment to providing healthcare access to its citizens.
